The Visitation Planning Calendar ("VPC") allows you to create a visual representation of a visitation schedule for parents sharing joint physical custody of their child(ren). It is designed to be agile and to have the most shallow learning curve possible. The finished product, in addition to being a unique and impressive visual exhibit, also shows what percentage of time the child(ren) is/are spending with each parent. You can begin using the VPC right away by simply clicking on the various days in the calendar. Each click will rotate the setting for the day between clear, type #1 (black border), and type #2 (gray border). You can define the number of hours for type #1 and type #2 according to the respective days of the week; in other words, if you want type #1 to be 24 hours for Fridays and Saturdays, but only 6 hours for Thursdays and 12 hours for Sundays (e.g., to account for partial days due to drop-offs and pick-ups on those days), using the "Hours per Day" table immediately to the right of the calendar. Note that as you change these numbers (or anything else), the "Parenting Time" calculations will automatically update. Also, you can click the If you find clicking through the days one at a time to be tedious, use the "Batch Toggle" controls to the far right of the calendar to speed up the job. There are options to set each of the days of the week to clear, type #1, or type #2 (or to leave the current settings alone), and then you can toggle every week, all the odd weeks, or all the even weeks with the push of a button. There is also a series of checkboxes along the right edge of the calendar itself; set these and then click the "CHECKED" button to toggle the days only on the specific weeks you select. Click the You can also reconfigure the calendar itself as you work. You can choose the starting date; set the length of the calendar to 3, 6, or 12 months; and even have each week start on Monday instead of Sunday. Set it how you like and click "Reset Calendar", and the page will reload with your new specifications. Did you make a mistake? Click "Undo Last Change" to fix it. Every change you make from the time you first load or reload the page is tracked until you navigate away or reload the page. The VPC is designed for maximum flexibility. You can even define, for purposes of the "Parenting Time" calculations, one day as something other than 24 hours (maybe you don't want to count 8 hours in bed as "parenting time", for instance). There are also a few other usability tweaks, including:
When you have your calendar the way you want it, print it directly from your browser (I would suggest previewing it first to ensure it will all fit on the page). Note only the calendar, the "Parenting Time" calculations, and the "Hours per Day" settings will print; the other controls, which would needlessly clutter your printed exhibit, are not visible on the printed product. In this sense, use of the VPC is completely free. However, note logged-in subscribers have the ability to save their settings into a small file which is downloaded onto the user's computer, as well as the ability to upload their settings from a previously saved file. These files are very small and lightweight, and you can easily carry them from computer to computer.
